Giannis Antetokounmpo’s older brother Thanasis is facing surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. This news was announced just days after Thanasis played in the final playoff game against the Pacers. Unfortunately, the injury occurred during a workout this week, and he will be unable to participate in the upcoming summer games with the Greek national team as they strive to qualify for the Olympics.

Thanosis had a more significant role on the Greek team last year when Giannis did not play. However, with his injury, he is likely to miss most, if not all, of the next NBA season. At 31 years old, Thanosis has been a part of the Milwaukee Bucks for five years and played 34 games this season. Despite signing several one-year contracts to remain with the team, his injury raises questions about his future with the Bucks. The team may have to reconsider their approach considering he won’t be able to play for an entire year.
