India has announced their 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which includes the return of Rishabh Pant after a year of recovering from a serious car crash. Pant, who suffered multiple injuries in the accident in December 2022, recently returned to the game with the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. Despite some doubts about his lack of recent professional outings, the Indian selectors have shown faith in Pant, who has a solid record in T20 internationals with 987 runs in 66 matches.
Rohit Sharma will lead the team as they seek to win their second T20 World Cup title, with Hardik Pandya serving as his deputy. The squad also includes power-hitter Rinku Singh as one of four reserve players. Unfortunately, opener Shubman Gill will not be part of the main squad this year; instead, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been chosen as Rohit’s opening partner.
India’s bowling attack is strong and led by pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh, supported by spinners Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel. The team made it to the semifinals two years ago in Australia and will begin this year’s tournament against Ireland in Group A before facing off against arch-rivals Pakistan. Other notable players on the squad include Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube and others. The reserves include Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh
