In Jefferson, Louisiana, a furniture retailer that has been in operation for nearly half a century is closing its doors permanently. The retailer, Compass Furniture, will start its final liquidation sale on March 21 at its location on 5025 Bloomfield Street, which is situated behind the Oscher medical building.

The company was founded in 1977 by Lou Rippner, who originally hailed from Cleveland, Ohio. After working in the law industry for several years, Lou made the switch to the furniture business and opened his own store. His son, Billy Rippner, joined as co-owner of Compass Furniture in 1992. Over the years, the Rippner family has been actively involved in community charities such as Second Harvest Food Bank and the Salvation Army.

As Billy approaches retirement age, he expressed gratitude to both his family and loyal customers who have supported Compass Furniture throughout its long history. He expressed regret that it was time for him to move on but acknowledged that it was an inevitable step towards a new chapter in his life. The closure of Compass Furniture marks the end of an era for this beloved local business.
