The Hyundai Group has been a dominant force in the automotive industry, with multiple prestigious vehicle awards under its belt. In 2020, Kia won the overall title at the World Car of the Year (WCOTY) competition for the Telluride, as well as titles for World Performance Car with the EV6 GT and World Urban Car with the Kia Soul EV. However, in 2021, Hyundai did not win any awards. That changed in 2022 when the Hyundai Ioniq 5 won multiple awards including World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle and World Car Design of the Year. The following year in 2023, Ioniq 6 also won these same awards.

In 2024, Kia made a strong comeback with its new EV9 winning both World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle titles. Additionally, Hyundai Ioniq 5 N won World Performance Car title. To be eligible for entry, a car must have an annual production exceeding 10,000 units and be available in at least two major global markets. It must also be priced lower than luxury options in their region.

The electric vehicle category was highly competitive with over thirty-two cars vying for recognition. The EV9 outperformed rivals like BMW i5 and Volvo EX30 to win WCOTY award while BMW 5 Series and i5 took home world luxury car title and Volvo EX30 won world urban car award respectively. In performance cars category, sixteen cars were tested including Hyundai Ioniq
