Finland’s national hydrogen transmission network is set to create a hydrogen market in the country, with Gasgrid unveiling a preliminary plan for the backbone network. The goal is to establish an open hydrogen market and develop a hydrogen infrastructure that meets operators’ needs by the 2030s. The initial phase of the network will focus on building infrastructure primarily in the coastal area of Finland, influenced by wind power projects on the west coast and carbon dioxide emissions from southern Finland. Future plans include expanding to eastern, central, and northern areas where new wind or solar power production can be developed. Gasgrid will begin mapping out concrete route alternatives starting in spring 2024 and gather feedback from companies and project developers involved in advancing the hydrogen economy. There is a collective effort to support the development of the hydrogen infrastructure and foster a thriving hydrogen market in Finland.
