Humanoid robots are gaining ground in technology, with companies like Tesla, Xiaomi, Boston Dynamic, and Figure 01 making strides. Sanctuary AI is the latest brand to join the fray in Europe, with its humanoid robot Phoenix set to work in a car factory for assembly tasks. Field tests will be conducted at Magna, an Austrian company that assembles brands like BMW and Jaguar.
While specifics about the number of robots and which factory they will be working in are yet to be determined, Sanctuary AI’s announcement competes with Figure 01’s plans to operate in BMW manufacturing plants in the United States. The Phoenix robot stands at 170 centimeters tall and weighs 70 kilos. It can walk at a speed of 4.8 km/h and has a maximum load capacity of 25 kilos.
Equipped with an artificial intelligence control system called Carbon, the robot can identify movement patterns to create a repertoire of relevant actions. The system mimics subsystems of the human brain such as memory, vision, hearing, and touch. Additionally, a human operator can control the robot remotely using virtual reality headsets and motion capture equipment with cameras and sensors.
Sanctuary AI’s humanoid robot is already making waves on the streets of Peru with its unique features that include savings capacity, noise reduction, and environmental care.
