In honor of National HIV Testing Day, Open Door Health Center of Illinois and Walgreens have teamed up to offer free testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections in DeKalb. The testing event will take place on June 27 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Walgreens located at 100 W. Lincoln Highway in DeKalb.

Perry Maier, the executive director of Open Door Health Center of Illinois, emphasized the importance of getting tested to know one’s status and make informed decisions about their health care needs. “Early engagement in care is crucial for better health outcomes,” said Maier. “By participating in this event, individuals can take a proactive step towards their health and well-being.”

Open Door has been participating in National HIV Testing Day for over 20 years and is proud to collaborate with Walgreens in the DeKalb community. The testing event offers participants the opportunity to receive rapid HIV and hepatitis C testing, as well as tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia. Rapid test results for HIV and hepatitis C will be available in just 20 minutes, while the remaining test results will be provided within five to seven business days. In addition to testing, PrEP and treatment referrals and counseling will also be offered.
