Heather Grenat, who works in the operating room at SGMC Health’s Smith Northview Campus, has been recognized for her role in ensuring the health system’s commitment to safety and high reliability. The Safe Care Award was recently presented to Grenat by Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Pankaj Agrawal, MD.

The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exemplary adherence to safety protocols, proactive hazard identification, continuous improvement initiatives, advocacy for safety culture, and mentoring and knowledge sharing.

SGMC Health is currently undergoing the process of becoming a High Reliability Organization (HRO), which promotes a culture of safety and quality. This process encourages all members of the health system to actively participate in ensuring reliability, discussing potential risks, and addressing concerns.

Grenat’s colleague nominated her for the award after highlighting her attention to detail and critical thinking skills that prevented a negative outcome. By taking initiative to raise awareness of a situation and question it, Grenat ultimately led to a better experience for the patient. Her dedication to safety has earned her recognition as an important member of SGMC Health’s team.
