Head and neck cancer is a major health concern in the US, with about 58,000 cases diagnosed each year. The majority of these cases are found in the mouth, specifically on the tongue, gums, tonsils, and upper throat. Early detection is crucial for a positive outcome, but most cases are diagnosed at a later stage when treatment becomes more difficult.

To raise awareness and make screenings more accessible, the Head & Neck Cancer Foundation has organized free screening events throughout the month of April. These events will take place on various dates and locations across the state, including Dakota Valley OMS in Owatonna and Lakeville on April 16th. Other participating locations include Alpine Dental in Crystal, MN; Oral & Facial Surgery in Minneapolis; Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates in Bemidji; and MN Oral & Facial Surgery in Sartell on April 19th.

The free screenings aim to help individuals identify any signs of head and neck cancer early on. This can greatly improve their chances of successful treatment. For more information on cancer, health, and other related stories, visit the Inside Your Health section on 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS website.
