The Hamas Politburo’s Deputy Head Musa Abu Marzuk will arrive in Moscow on Monday, June 24 for negotiations. According to a report by RIA Novosti, this is confirmed by an informed source. Abu Marzuk has planned meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow. It’s worth noting that the Russian authorities do not classify Hamas or Islamic Jihad as terrorist organizations and maintain regular contacts with their leadership through the Russian Foreign Ministry.
In the past, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has met with Hamas leaders while current President Vladimir Putin avoids public personal contact with Hamas representatives. Various leaders of Hamas have visited Moscow in the past, including a meeting between Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Hamas representatives on several occasions. Following tragic events such as the attack on Israeli territory by Hamas terrorists, the Russian Foreign Ministry has received several delegations from Hamas.
