The European business location Austria has been facing challenges in recent times, with poor mood among companies and declining investments. However, despite these challenges, the Upper Austrian plastics and foam company Greiner is showing a different approach. Over 80 percent of Greiner’s total investments of 138 million euros flowed into European locations, with 56 million euros invested in Austria.

Greiner CEO Saori Dubourg emphasized their commitment to Austria as a location due to the favorable conditions for developing new technologies and products. Despite a challenging past year that saw a 9.1 percent decline in sales to 2.1 billion euros, finance director Hannes Moser described the result as solid. Signs of recovery are already appearing in the packaging sector for the current financial year, though the market environment remains challenging.

Greiner’s sustainability strategy includes acquiring a Serbian recycling company in 2022 as part of its efforts to achieve EU recycling goals and comply with the Supply Chain Act. Efforts are also being made to increase the proportion of women in management positions to 40 percent by 2030, while Greiner increased its number of employees by 9.3 percent last year worldwide, with a slight increase in Austria to 2,050 employees. There are currently over 190 vacant positions at Greiner, including some roles in Austria.
