Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) announced today that Christ Community Health Services Inc. will be receiving a grant of $3,354,327 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This grant will help support the organization’s efforts in providing medical care to underserved populations in Memphis.

In a statement, Congressman Cohen expressed his satisfaction with the grant, emphasizing that it will assist Christ Community Health Services in meeting the healthcare needs of those in Memphis who are most in need. He also noted the importance of this funding, especially in light of Tennessee’s refusal to expand Medicaid through the TennCare program.

The state government’s neglect of the healthcare needs of the poor is a cause for concern and stresses the importance of supporting organizations like Christ Community Health Services that fill the gaps left by inadequate government support. “Community health centers play a vital role in providing healthcare to individuals who may otherwise lack access to necessary medical services,” said Congressman Cohen. “This grant is an important step towards ensuring that all Memphians have access to high-quality healthcare.”
