In 2023, the resurgence of international travel saw airports from London to Tokyo experience an increase in global passenger traffic. This was a positive development for airlines with large international networks, but ultra-low-cost airlines in the United States faced challenges as they shifted their focus to domestic routes.

Despite this, Denver International Airport saw significant growth in passenger counts, although it fell in the rankings to sixth place from third due to restrictions on international travel. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport retained its position as the busiest airport in the world, serving over 104.7 million passengers in 2023.

The rankings for 2023 were as follows:

1. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (1)

2. Dubai International Airport (5)

3. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (2)

4. London Heathrow (8)

5. Tokyo Haneda International Airport (16)

6. Denver International Airport (3)
