The sixth ministerial meeting of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council took place recently, during which new goals were set to enhance collaboration in key technology areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum technology, 6G wireless networks, and semiconductors. The council reiterated their commitment to a risk-based approach to advancing AI risk management standards and ensuring the safe, secure, and trustworthy development and use of AI technologies.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the announcement of a new Quantum Task Force, which aims to address barriers to research and development cooperation between the EU and the U.S. on quantum technologies. This will involve establishing a shared understanding of technology readiness levels, developing unified benchmarks, identifying quantum technology components, and advancing international standards.

The U.S. and EU also plan to develop a common vision for 6G wireless networks, cooperate in the global standardization process, and create an outreach plan to promote the advancement of the next-generation communication networks. In addition to these goals, the council aims to explore research cooperation opportunities focused on finding alternatives to the use of per- and polyfluorinated substances in chips.
