The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is set to host a high-level policy event in Riyadh as part of this year’s World Environment Day, which is expected to engage millions of people around the world. UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen will deliver a keynote speech focusing on the theme of land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.

A record-breaking 3,500 World Environment Day events are taking place this year, with activities ranging from tree planting in the Maldives and Kenya to large-scale city murals in the United States. Events are also taking place in zoos across Ireland, Singapore, and India. These events aim to mobilize environmental action and restore ecosystems globally.

UNEP has been leading the global efforts for environmental outreach since 1973, making it one of the largest global platforms for environmental protection.
