German Economy Minister Robert Habeck has emphasized the need for an updated China strategy for Germany. He expressed that the current strategy lacks a longer-term plan and does not align with where Germany envisions its future relationship with China.

During a reception at the German embassy in Beijing, Habeck highlighted the importance of a medium-term perspective in the relationship between the two countries, noting that the Chinese government likely already has such a vision in place. He emphasized the need for Germany to catch up and align its strategy with the evolving dynamics of the China-Germany relationship.

The economy minister identified key areas such as politics, trade, and climate action that should be prioritized in the updated strategy. He stressed that a strategy should look to the future and outline a path forward, even if it may not play out exactly as planned.

Habeck’s comments come amid growing concerns about the trajectory of China-Germany relations and the need for Germany to adapt its strategy to meet new challenges and opportunities in the evolving global landscape.
