The New York Yankees are currently looking for a replacement for injured slugger Anthony Rizzo, and free agent Garrett Cooper could be the solution. Recently released by the Boston Red Sox, Cooper signed a minor league deal with the Chicago Cubs but was designated for assignment after only 12 games. However, he has experience playing in the majors, having made his debut with the Yankees in 2017.

At 30 years old, Cooper is a versatile player who can play multiple positions and provide depth to the Yankees’ lineup. While top prospect Ben Rice has impressed in his first few games, adding an experienced veteran like Cooper could be beneficial to the team. After going unclaimed on waivers, Cooper is now free to sign with any team in the open market.

Cooper hit .326 with six extra-base hits during his brief stint with the Yankees in 2017 and was an All-Star two years ago. He also hit a total of 17 home runs with the Marlins and Padres last season. With his experience and talent, Cooper could be a cost-effective option to fill Rizzo’s void while Rice continues to develop.
