FuelCell Energy’s carbonate fuel cell technology is set to be utilized in a biogeneration project developed for the Sacramento Area Sewer District (Sacramento Sewer) by Ameresco. The goal of the project is to convert on-site biofuel into clean electricity. One of FuelCell Energy’s 2.8-Megawatt carbonate fuel cell platforms will be deployed for this project, producing power and useful heat from biogas while also having the potential for future production of renewable green hydrogen.

FuelCell Energy has also entered into an agreement to offer comprehensive maintenance services for the system. This will allow Sacramento Sewer to focus on its core mission of safeguarding public health and the environment while benefiting from renewable power generated by the latest clean technology available.

According to Jason Few, FuelCell Energy’s CEO & president, the company’s patented power platforms offer a unique advantage by running on on-site biogas without the need for combustion. This enables community facilities, like SacSewer, to efficiently produce clean and continuous electricity while reducing operating costs. Additionally, the use of FuelCell Energy’s technology results in reduced greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants, benefiting the local community.

FuelCell Energy has a history of business operations in California since 2005 and has collaborated with various government entities to provide clean energy solutions through innovative platforms. Previous successful installations leveraging biogas technology include projects in Riverside, San Bernardino, and Tulare. The company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship continues to drive partnerships with communities seeking to reduce their dependence on traditional grid energy sources.

In conclusion, FuelCell Energy’s carbonate fuel cell technology is set to revolutionize energy generation in California with its unique ability to convert on-site biofuel into clean electricity without combustion. With its patented power platforms and commitment to sustainability, FuelCell Energy is poised for continued success as it partners with communities like Sacramento Sewer
