A 2-year-old king penguin named Littlefoot from the Kansas City Zoo is currently a finalist in Penguin International’s March of the Penguin Madness competition. After competing against 47 other penguins from around the world, Littlefoot made it to the finals through four rounds of voting that started on March 17. The competition aims to raise awareness about the issues penguins face as their natural habitats change due to environmental challenges.

Littlefoot’s inspiring story earned him a nomination for the competition, and now he is up against two other talented penguins: Pearl, a 5-month-old emperor penguin from SeaWorld San Diego, and Kokosanka, a 5-year-old African penguin from Zoo Gdańsk in Gdańsk, Poland. To help Littlefoot be crowned the “Peng-Win Champion,” individuals can vote online on Penguin International’s website, as well as on the nonprofit organization’s Facebook and Instagram pages. The voting period will close at the end of the day on Monday.

Despite facing significant challenges when he was hatched – losing a lot of blood, failing to absorb his yolk, and being underweight – Littlefoot showed remarkable resilience and energy the following day. With extensive medical care and frequent feedings, he defied the odds and is now one of the larger king penguins at the zoo, known for his friendly and curious nature.
