Georges St-Pierre, a former UFC fighter, has revealed that the reason behind his retirement was his decision to move up to the middleweight division. St-Pierre took a break from fighting in 2013 after giving up his welterweight title and returned in 2017 to challenge Michael Bisping for the middleweight title at UFC 217. However, the process of putting on weight to compete at 185 pounds took a toll on his body.

During his time trying to gain weight, St-Pierre developed ulcerative colitis, an inflammation of the intestine. This condition led him to relinquish his middleweight title and retire from fighting shortly after his victory against Bisping. In an interview on the “Pound 4 Pound” podcast, St-Pierre explained that he found relief in intermittent fasting, which helped cure his symptoms. He no longer needs to take medication for the condition and was able to manage it effectively.

Initially, the symptoms of his illness were distressing and he thought it might be a more serious health issue. However, after implementing intermittent fasting, he noticed a significant improvement in his overall health. Despite facing health challenges during his career, St-Pierre’s dedication to fighting allowed him to overcome his obstacles and find a way to manage his condition effectively. His journey highlights the importance of prioritizing one’s health and well-being even in pursuit of one’s dreams and passions.
