Ali Rios, a sophomore shortstop from Brazoswood High School, has been named the UTMB Health Athlete of the Week. Rios played a pivotal role in the Lady Buccaneers’ successful postseason softball campaign, highlighted by a grand slam home run that helped defeat the Pearland Oilers, who were the defending state champions.

According to Brazoswood softball head coach Laura Oltman, Rios possesses all the physical abilities necessary to excel in softball, but it is her positive mindset and competitive spirit that truly set her apart. Oltman praised Rios for her ability to approach the game with joy, not allowing big moments to overwhelm her or take away from her performance.
