Mimi Xu, an up-and-coming tennis star from Swansea, is currently based at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton. She is coached by Welshman Mathew James, who previously worked with Emma Raducanu. Recently, Xu broke into the top 10 of the junior world rankings, a milestone that she describes as both humbling and proud.

Xu has been climbing up the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings thanks to her impressive performances in major junior tournaments. She achieved success at the French Open, reaching the quarter-finals in the girls’ doubles alongside fellow Brit Hannah Klugman. Xu also made a strong showing at the Australian Open earlier in the year, reaching the singles quarter-finals and doubles semi-finals.

Looking ahead to Wimbledon, where she made history in 2021 as the youngest player to enter the junior tournament, Xu is determined to continue striving for excellence in her career. Fueled by hard work and dedication put into her development by herself and her team, Xu is excited for what lies ahead in her promising tennis career.

In preparation for Wimbledon this year, Xu will be competing in several warm-up tournaments leading up to The Championships. She will also be working closely with coach James to hone her skills and strategize for success on grass.

Xu’s rise through the ranks has been impressive, but she knows that there is still work to be done if she wants to achieve her ultimate goal of becoming a professional tennis player.

“I am grateful for everything that my coaches have taught me,” said Xu. “They have helped me become a better athlete and person both on and off the court.”

As she continues to climb up the rankings and compete at higher levels of play, Xu remains committed to staying true to herself and her values.

“I want to be remembered not just for my achievements on court,” said Xu. “I want people to know that I am kind-hearted and always willing to help others.”
