The recent news that wide receiver Calvin Ridley would be joining the Titans has taken many by surprise, as the Jaguars and Patriots were initially thought to be the front-runners for his services. General Manager Ran Carthon admitted that even the Titans hadn’t initially believed they could make a move for Ridley due to budget constraints.

However, with a couple of Titans players leaving for other teams in the opening hours of free agency, Carthon, president of football operations Chad Brinker, and head coach Brian Callahan began discussions on making a push for the wide receiver. After sleeping on it, the team decided to go for it the next morning, and things moved quickly from there.

The swiftness of the deal was highlighted by team owner Amy Adams Strunk calling Carthon to confirm if the deal had been finalized while he was on another call with Ridley congratulating him on the agreement. Carthon credited the teamwork within the Titans organization for getting the deal done and expressed hope that it would lead to a successful season under Callahan’s leadership.
