Roberto De Zerbi has reached an agreement in principle to become the new manager of Marseille, as announced by the French club on Monday. The 45-year-old Italian coach is set to take over from Jean-Louis Gasset at the helm of the 1993 Champions League winners, who finished eighth in the table and will not be participating in European competitions next season.

At Brighton, De Zerbi led the team to an 11th place finish in his second season in charge and also guided them to an FA Cup semi-final and secured Europa League qualification for the first time in their history. However, he left at the end of the season.

De Zerbi’s move to Marseille is seen as a major coup for the club. He had previously been linked with the managerial position at Chelsea, but ultimately Enzo Maresca was appointed instead. Now, De Zerbi is set to join Marseille and lead them back to success on both domestic and European fronts. The French club is excited about his arrival and are working with all parties to formalize his appointment. They are also preparing for De Zerbi and his staff to join the club’s bench in the coming days.
