Sol de Janeiro has built its identity around its famous Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, which claims to firm and tighten skin over time. Although the brand was founded in 2015, it blew up online in 2023. Cofounder Heela Yang told Glossy in December that 90% of the brand’s triple-digit growth came from organic social promotion.

I recently discovered this brand and was intrigued by their bestselling cream that promises to give me a Brazilian butt. However, I couldn’t justify spending $48 on an 8-ounce tube of lotion, so I kept looking for alternatives. Luckily, Costco offers a two-pack of 6-ounce Nutrius Brazilian Body Butter Creams for only $22, making it a more budget-friendly option that still provides similar benefits like cupuaçu butter, coconut oil, acai oil, and guarana extract as Sol de Janeiro’s product. I decided to test both products side by side to see if they truly deliver on their promises.
