Between April 2023 and May 2024, UNICEF made significant progress in providing essential healthcare services to children in Al-Hasakeh. A total of 71,000 children received health check-ups and free prescriptions during this period, while over 200 children were referred to specialized medical services for further treatment. Additionally, 72,300 children under five years old and 13,500 pregnant and lactating women were screened for malnutrition, with those in need of treatment being provided with the necessary nutrition supplies.

The successful implementation of these programs was made possible through funding from various sources, including the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA/USAID), GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, the German Federal Foreign Office, and the governments of Australia and Norway. Their support played a crucial role in ensuring that vulnerable children in Al-Hasakeh received the necessary healthcare services and support during this period.

Health workers in the region also conducted individual consultations and group awareness sessions for nearly 39,700 caregivers. These sessions covered topics such as infant and young child feeding, hygiene practices, and preventive measures against communicable diseases. The goal of these activities was to educate caregivers on how to best care for the health and well-being of their children.

Overall, UNICEF’s efforts in Al-Hasakeh have led to significant improvements in healthcare outcomes for children in the region. With continued support from donors like those mentioned above, UNICEF will continue its work towards ensuring that all children have access to essential healthcare services they need to thrive.
