Gustavo Gorriti, a six-time national judo champion of Peru, switched to Krav Maga after growing tired of injuries. He now directs the investigative newspaper IDL-Reporters, where journalists practice Krav Maga three times a week as a work obligation. Gorriti believes that martial arts and journalism complement each other well.
In August of last year, Gorriti was diagnosed with mantle lymphoma, a very aggressive cancer. After undergoing chemotherapy and now taking medication, he spends his days defending himself from the persecution of the Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office. This has led to international solidarity from the journalistic community in defense of freedom of expression.
The Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office accused Gorriti of bribery, based on a former confidant’s testimony. Despite the pressure, Gorriti has refused to hand over his phones but has provided some public information. He maintains his resistance to protect the integrity of his information and uphold the law, even in the face of potential legal action.
Meanwhile, he continues his investigations and faces a powerful enemy of disinformation campaigns. Gorriti, a legendary reporter with numerous awards, has faced challenges throughout his career, including being kidnapped after a political coup. His investigations have exposed corruption and scandals involving prominent figures in Peru.
Despite his health battles and legal challenges, Gorriti remains determined to continue his work and fight against misinformation.
