The Brazilian Football Association has been selected to host the next FIFA Women’s World Cup after a vote at the 74th FIFA Congress. This marks the first time that a FIFA Congress has voted on the hosts of the tournament, and it is a significant step forward for women’s football globally.
The Brazilian Football Association received 119 votes, securing their place as the hosts of the tournament, beating out a joint bid from Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany which received 78 votes. President of the Brazilian Football Association, Ednaldo Rodrigues, expressed excitement at the opportunity to host the tournament and emphasized the importance of continuing to improve and strengthen women’s football worldwide. He promised to make the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup the biggest and best yet, inviting all to come to Brazil and experience the hospitality of the country.
The tournament will provide a platform for FIFA to build upon the success of previous editions, particularly the record-breaking event held in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand last year. The FIFA Congress, attended by all 211 FIFA Member Associations, began with a video address from the Prime Minister of Thailand and an inspiring speech from Nualphan Lamsam of Thailand’s Football Association.
