Firefighters and police worked together to rescue numerous dogs from a boarding kennel that was affected by a fire at the Pio Costa Industrial Complex in Essex County. The incident occurred on a Saturday evening, causing heavy damage to several businesses in the complex, including K9 Resorts Hotel.

When officers from multiple police departments arrived at the scene, they quickly evacuated as many dogs as possible from the kennel. However, due to unsafe smoke levels, they were unable to save all the dogs present. Subsequently, Fairfield firefighters arrived and successfully evacuated the remaining 46 dogs who are now safe and under veterinary care as a precaution.

Several fire departments from surrounding areas provided assistance during the operation, including West Caldwell, Pine Brook, Wayne and more. Additionally, the West Essex First Aid Squad and Essex Fells and Verona fire departments offered support during the event. Plans are underway to transport all the dogs to another facility owned by the kennel with assistance from Associated Humane Society.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by Fairfield Fire Prevention Bureau. The Fairfield Police Department commended the bravery and dedication of law enforcement officers and firefighters involved in ensuring the safety of all dogs during evacuation.
