SGMC Health recently honored Justin Parks with the May DAISY Award for extraordinary nursing. The award recognized Parks’ exceptional care for a patient and their family during end-of-life treatment. Despite being in the ICU, when the patient expressed a desire to go outside after the ventilator was removed, Parks made it happen. The family was grateful for this gesture and expressed their appreciation for the compassionate care Parks provided throughout the patient’s stay.

The patient’s son shared that the memory of seeing his father’s face light up when he was taken outside was something he would cherish, thanks to Parks’ efforts. Parks not only fulfilled the patient’s last wish but also ensured that the family’s questions were answered, they were supported, and the patient’s needs were met.

SGMC Health encourages patients and colleagues to nominate nurses who demonstrate exceptional care and go above and beyond in their work. Nominations are reviewed based on criteria such as compassion, teamwork, leadership, attitude, skills, and knowledge. The DAISY award is presented monthly in front of colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. The honoree receives a certificate and a beautiful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, along with a floral arrangement donated by The Flower Gallery, the local sponsor of SGMC Health’s DAISY Award.
