The 72nd meeting of the Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation of ASEAN Countries (AWGIPC 72) emphasized the importance of exploring the power of intellectual property in the digital economy. Mr. Xaysomphet Norasingh highlighted that while the digital economy presents unprecedented opportunities, it also poses challenges, making it critical to leverage intellectual property effectively to navigate this new frontier.

The Chairman stressed the importance of creating a conducive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship to unlock the full potential of ASEAN’s creative industries and promote inclusive growth and prosperity for all. AWGIPC has been implementing the ASEAN Action Program on Intellectual Property for the period 2016-2025, with over 80% of initiatives and activities showing successful outcomes.

Director General Luu Hoang Long of the Department of Intellectual Property emphasized the role of AWGIPC in implementing ASEAN Action Programs on intellectual property to align with the goals of building the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC Blueprint). The Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People’s Committee, Tran Chi Cuong, highlighted the increasing importance of intellectual property in socio-economic development and its role in promoting innovation, maintaining competitive advantage, and protecting consumer rights.

During the meeting, delegates discussed various aspects of intellectual property cooperation, aiming to strengthen and expand its influence at all levels in the region. The focus was on developing an effective legal framework for intellectual property protection and promoting international partnerships related to intellectual property. Additionally, human resource training was identified as a critical aspect for building a robust intellectual property system in ASEAN.

In conclusion, AWGIPC plays a crucial role in building and implementing ASEAN’s intellectual property cooperation activities aimed at enhancing legal frameworks, human resource training, international partnerships related to intellectual property while leveraging its power to unlock full potential in navigating digital economy opportunities and challenges.
