India is celebrating its 75th anniversary of independence, marking significant changes in the country over the years. Today, it is the world’s most populous country, the fifth-largest economy globally, and one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. Despite these achievements, India still faces fundamental challenges in its development journey.

To address these challenges and explore how future academic work can contribute to India’s economic growth, the 21st Century India Center at UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy is hosting an event titled “India’s Economy in the Next Quarter Century: Opportunities and Challenges.” The event will take place on May 9th from 2 PM to 6:30 PM at Malamud Conference Room at Institute of Americas. This public event is open to individuals aged 18 and above and admission is free for all attendees.

During this event, leading economists will discuss current research insights and share their expertise on how future academic work can address the most pressing economic issues that India will encounter in the next 25 years. The keynote speech will be delivered by Michael Kremer, a University Professor at University of Chicago, who was also co-recipient of the 2019 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences. Additionally, Karthik Muralidharan from UC San Diego will give a special lecture about his book “Accelerating India’s Development.”

The agenda for this event includes a panel discussion, a break time, followed by keynote and special lecture before ending with a reception. This public event is supported by the 21st Century India Center at UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy.
