The Institute for Nursing Excellence at RWJBarnabas Health recently hosted a Peri-Anesthesia Conference at its Eisenhower facility in Livingston, NJ. The conference brought together 44 nurse attendees for lectures, simulation, and certification review sessions for the CAPA and CPAN examinations.

The event was organized and presented by Swapnil Shah, Jessica Stanford, and Mary Koch from the Center for Professional Development, Innovation, and Research (CPDIR). The goal of the conference was to provide a hands-on learning experience for PACU and Same Day Surgery nurses. Attendees had the opportunity to network and meet colleagues from other RWJBarnabas Health sites across the system. Nurses came from locations such as Community Medical Center in Toms River and Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City.

The agenda for the conference included sessions on Phase I and II Management, Anesthesia Medications for Adult and Pediatric populations, Fluid and Blood management, and a special interactive session on Care of the Caregiver provided by Tom Moore from RWJBarnabas Health’s Employee Assistance Program.

Special thanks were given to presenters Michael McLoughlin, Monica Bianco, Sarika Patel, Thomas Moore, Aileen Danguilan, and Richelle Powell. The morning concluded with hands-on stations for mini-code, debriefing, ventilator management, A-Lines, and Airway management led by interprofessional colleagues from the system.
