The sky turned dark in Easton, Maine as the moon covered the sun outside the Francis Malcolm Science Center. A crowd of over 100 people gathered in the center’s yard and on the deck to witness this incredible event.

Astronomer Jim Stepp, a planetarium volunteer, provided instructions on how to safely view the eclipse. The science center organized several family activities for the afternoon, including a planetarium show called “Totality”, face painting, crafts for kids and making eclipse viewers.

Jenny Anderson and her son Oscar were among those who came to Easton to witness their first eclipse in Maine. Originally from Philadelphia, they recently moved to Bar Harbor and were excited to experience this natural phenomenon from a great vantage point.

As the moon’s shadow began to pass over the sun at around 3:32 pm, twilight enveloped the area. By 3:34 pm, darkness had descended on Easton with cheers erupting from the crowd. But by 3:36 pm, as the sky began to lighten once more, it was clear that totality had come to an end.
