This week, several talented female athletes in the Louisville area showed their skills on softball fields and lacrosse courts. Their outstanding performances earned them nominations for Courier Journal girls athlete of the week. The voting for the award is currently open and will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, with the winner being announced on Friday.

Among the nominees is Collegiate senior Bridgette Haraden, who had an impressive game with six goals and one assist against Cooper in lacrosse. Mercy senior Maya Merrill was recognized for her pitching skills, striking out 31 batters in games against Fern Creek, Atherton, and Boyle County, as well as earning a save against Fern Creek. Assumption junior Lauren Satterly is also up for the award after recording six hits, including two home runs, six RBIs, and two stolen bases in softball games against Eastern, Male, and Jeffersonville.

Another nominee is Portland Christian sophomore Ava Gish who received a nod for her outstanding performance in softball with seven hits and five RBIs in games against Beth Haven, Presentation and Christian Educational Consortium.

Cameron Breier from Manual Senior also got a recognition for scoring eight goals and having six assists in a lacrosse game against Mercy .
