This year, four exceptional scientists from Australia have been inducted into the prestigious Royal Society. Professor David Komander from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) has been acknowledged for his leadership in the field of ubiquitylation, a molecular pathway that plays a crucial role in inherited Parkinson’s disease.

Professor Douglas MacFarlane from Monash University has been elected for his extensive contributions to materials chemistry, with a focus on developing new ionic materials and exploring their physical properties.

Professor Ivan Marusic from the University of Melbourne has been recognized as an international expert in fluid mechanics, specifically for his discovery of ‘superstructures’ and their role in wall turbulence.

These outstanding Australians join an elite group of 90 scientists from around the world who are members of the Royal Society, which spans various fields such as biochemistry and artificial intelligence. Established in the mid-17th century, the Royal Society is one of the oldest scientific academies worldwide and boasts some of the most eminent scientists globally.
