Residents and advocacy groups in Beaver County gathered to mark the anniversary of Shell’s ethane cracker plant opening. The plant has been a source of concern for many in the community, leading to ongoing vigilance and activism.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Shippingport, officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Health are urging residents near the Beaver Valley Power Station to restock their supply of potassium iodide tablets. These tablets are crucial in the event of a radiological emergency and should be kept up to date to ensure effective protection.

In response to this need, free potassium iodide tablets will be distributed at various locations throughout the state, including the Beaver Valley Mall’s Center at the Mall. Residents living within 10 miles of the state’s four active nuclear power plants are eligible to receive these tablets. They can visit the distribution center at the mall on June 12 or contact the Department of Health for more information.

The Department of Health emphasizes the importance of having unexpired potassium iodide tablets on hand in case of an emergency. This upcoming event provides an opportunity for residents to obtain new tablets or exchange expiring ones for fresh supplies. No appointments are necessary for this event, making it convenient for those in need.
