As mental health issues become more prevalent on college campuses, faculty and staff have the chance to enhance their skills in supporting students facing these challenges through a virtual Mental Health 101 Training. Hosted by WELLWVU and the Carruth Center, the training will take place on June 13 from 10-11:30 a.m. or July 16 from noon to 1:30 p.m. This 90-minute session will cover crucial topics such as current national mental health statistics, specific characteristics of mental health within WVU, effective listening skills, services offered by the Carruth Center and CARE Team, warning signs of suicide, and how to appropriately intervene with students in distress.

Through this training, participants will gain valuable insights and skills to better support students who may be struggling with their mental health. By attending this training, faculty and staff can learn how to recognize signs of distress, provide a listening ear, and connect students with the necessary resources for help. It is essential for educators and support staff to be equipped with the knowledge and tools to effectively assist students in need.
