In May, nearly 912,000 new passenger cars were registered in the European Union, a 3 percent decrease from the previous year. Despite this decline, electric cars continued to be a growing market share in Europe. Fully electric cars made up 12.5 percent of registrations in May, down slightly from 13.8 percent the previous year. However, hybrid cars saw an increase in market share from 25 percent to 30 percent. The combined market share of petrol and diesel cars also decreased from 52.1 percent to 48.5 percent.

In terms of registrations, fully electric car registrations dropped by 12 percent in Europe in May to 114,308 units. While this was a decline overall, some countries saw significant increases in electric car registrations. Belgium and France were the only major markets where electric car registrations increased by 44.8 percent and 5.4 percent respectively.

However, Germany and the Netherlands saw significant declines in electric car registrations with decreases of 30.6 percent and 11.7 percent respectively.

Overall, while the electric car market in Europe is experiencing a slight decline in market share, it continues to be a growing market as more people turn towards cleaner forms of transportation.
