In a meeting held by the National Wage Council in Egypt, it was announced that the minimum wage for workers in the private sector will be increased to 6,000 pounds starting in May. This decision aligns with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to support workers and enhance production, ultimately benefiting both employers and employees. The meeting was attended by several ministers and heads of agencies, emphasizing the government’s commitment to balancing the interests of both employers and workers in light of current challenges.

Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, highlighted the government’s focus on ensuring the well-being of workers and stabilizing establishments to increase productivity and support the development process. The minimum wage has steadily increased over the years, reaching 6,000 pounds, including the employer’s share of insurance subscriptions.

Micro-enterprises with less than 10 workers will be excluded from the wage increase, and a grievances committee will be open for three months to address any concerns. Minister of Labor Hassan Shehata emphasized the importance of supporting workers and improving their standard of living while promoting stronger labor relations between employers and employees.

As soon as the decision is issued, the Ministry of Labor will provide details on how to implement the wage increase within establishments across Egypt. This decision is expected to have a positive impact on workers’ living standards and contribute to a more stable economy in Egypt.
