U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, has named Farmers Hen House of Washington County as her Small Business of the Week. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to highlight a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Started in 1997 by Eldon T. Miller in Kalona, Farmers Hen House began with just three local Amish and Mennonite farms. Over the years, the business has expanded to partner with 90 farms while maintaining strong ties to the Kalona community. Mark Miller, who purchased the business in 2000, passed on the responsibility to his son Ryan, who now serves as president. Under Ryan’s leadership, Farmers Hen House has engaged in new outreach initiatives such as collaborating with culinary experts, starting The Scramble podcast, and writing a community blog. The business also donates over 12,000 eggs a week to Iowa food banks.

Farmers Hen House recently celebrated their 27th business anniversary and remains committed to providing high-quality organic eggs and supporting local communities. Ranking Member Ernst plans to continue recognizing small businesses like Farmers Hen House that contribute to Iowa’s reputation as a leader in egg production.
