A tornado caused significant damage in the Memorial Parkway neighborhood of Katy, Texas. One resident, a woman who shared cell phone video of the storm, felt fortunate to be alive after her fence was knocked down and a branch fell on her roof. Her niece rushed to help clean up the aftermath, relieved that no one was seriously injured.
In the shopping center behind South Mason Road, an EF-1 tornado with winds up to 90 miles per hour caused destruction. The Firestone Auto Care building was demolished and Bourbon Street Sports Bar sustained significant damage. The bar’s employees, Kevin and Jason, recounted their experience of taking refuge in a cooler as the storm hit, noting that the roof was lifted off and the large air conditioning unit was thrown to the ground.
Officials from the National Weather Service reported that the tornado was on the ground for a few minutes, causing widespread damage in the area. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported, although one CenterPoint Energy worker did experience a minor electric shock. The community is grateful for their safety as they begin the process of recovery and rebuilding after the storm.
