Tucker DeVries, the son of former Bulldogs coach Darian DeVries, announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on Wednesday after Drake basketball lost to Washington State in the NCAA Tournament. Despite experiencing shoulder issues throughout the season and playing through pain, DeVries was able to contribute significantly to the team’s success.

During his time at Drake, DeVries made a significant impact as a true freshman starter and continued to impress in his junior season when he averaged 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, along with 53 steals, a career-high for him. He also earned the prestigious Larry Bird Trophy award twice as the conference player of the year.

With Darian DeVries taking on a new coaching role at West Virginia, it is anticipated that more Bulldog players will enter the transfer portal in the coming days. The departure of Tucker DeVries marks the end of an era at Drake where he played a crucial role in the team’s achievements under his father’s leadership.

Alyssa Hertel, the college sports recruiting reporter for the Des Moines Register, can be contacted for more information on this developing story as other players contemplate their next moves and uncertainty looms over Drake’s future following coaching change.
