In Chicago, a chiropractor named Clarence Brown III was found guilty of committing fraudulent federal health care charges after a two-week trial. The owner of Dr. CB3 Wellness, Inc. and Apex Integrated Medical Center, Ltd., Brown is facing up to 10 years in prison for each of the nine counts of health care fraud against him, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

From 2016 to 2020, Brown allegedly submitted false claims to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois for health care services that were never provided to patients. Some of these claims were even made when Brown was not in Illinois at all. To support his fake claims, Brown created medical documents and billed BCBS $1.3 million for services provided to two families. Despite this deceitful behavior, he received $750,000 from the insurance provider for these false claims.

Now that he has been convicted on all nine counts of health care fraud against him, Brown’s sentencing is scheduled for July 23, 2024. If convicted, he could face significant prison time for defrauding the insurance provider and submitting false claims for services not rendered.
