Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam winner, faced a knee injury during his match against Francisco Cerundolo at the French Open. He underwent surgery on his right knee following the discovery of a torn medial meniscus and had to withdraw from the quarter-final match against Casper Ruud.

Djokovic expressed gratitude for the medical team that assisted him during the injury and thanked his fans for their support. While he did not provide a definitive answer on his participation in Wimbledon, which starts on July 1, he stated his intention to focus on recovery and return to the court as soon as possible.

The slippery courts at Roland Garros were cited by Djokovic as a factor that exacerbated his knee issue, which had been causing him discomfort for the past few weeks. After a grueling match against Cerundolo and a previous five-set battle with Lorenzo Musetti, Djokovic’s injury became too severe to continue in the tournament.

As a result of Djokovic’s withdrawal, Casper Ruud received a walkover and advanced to the semi-finals to face Alexander Zverev. Jannik Sinner will rise to become Italy’s top-ranked player next week, marking the first time since 2004 that the men’s final at the French Open will not feature Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, or Roger Federer.
