Disney+, the streaming service owned by The Walt Disney Company, is set to implement stricter measures against password sharing in June. This move comes after CEO Bob Iger revealed in an interview that the company will begin enforcing its no-password-sharing policy more broadly in September.

Disney+ has already implemented strict password sharing policies, but they have not been strictly enforced until now. However, after seeing a significant increase in new signups following Netflix’s similar crackdown on password sharing, Disney has decided to follow suit. The goal of this crackdown is to help Disney+ move towards profitability. Despite its popularity, the service continues to operate at a loss, and the company hopes that by restricting password sharing, they can increase revenue and see the service become profitable.

Hulu, another streaming service owned by Disney, has also started limiting account sharing outside of households. This stricter approach to password sharing comes after Netflix saw a significant boost in subscribers when it implemented similar rules. Iger acknowledged that Netflix has set the standard for success in the streaming industry and hopes that Disney can experience similar success by curbing password sharing on its own platform.

In addition to enforcing stricter password sharing policies, Disney+ has made other changes within its streaming business. While specific details were not provided, it is clear that the company is focused on growth and making strategic changes to improve its position in the streaming market. By prioritizing this issue, Disney is aiming to drive growth and enhance its streaming business overall.
