The Science Café event at Fort Hays State University, which will take place on Monday, April 29th, is sure to be an engaging and informative experience. Sponsored by FHSU’s Science and Mathematics Education Institute, the event will feature a presentation on “Endogenous retroviruses: Hidden hitchhikers and how they spread.”
Dr. Eric Gillock, a professor of biological sciences at FHSU, will lead the discussion on this fascinating topic. Endogenous retroviruses are genetic parasites that can be found in the genomes of most eukaryotic cells, much like unwanted houseguests that make themselves at home without invitation. These retroviruses are difficult to remove and can have negative effects on the host organism.
Science Café presentations are open to the public and completely free of charge. If you have any questions or would like more information about the event, please direct your inquiries to Cari Rohleder at [email protected] or 785-628-4743. You can also find additional details about the FHSU Science and Mathematics Education Institute website, the FHSU Science Café webpage, and the FHSU Science Café Facebook page. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to learn more about endogenous retroviruses!
