Deonte Thompson, a native of South St. Petersburg, is using his passion for technology to give back to his old neighborhood in various ways. Growing up, Thompson was heavily involved in sports, playing youth football and basketball for Boca Ciega High School. One day, while walking through an alley on his way to practice basketball at the Childs Park Community Center, he stumbled upon an abandoned television that piqued his curiosity about technology.

That moment sparked Thompson’s interest in technology, leading him to pursue a degree in electrical engineering and eventually become an executive for a computer company in Texas. Despite his success, Thompson remains committed to helping his hometown of St. Petersburg. He played a crucial role in establishing the computer lab at the Childs Park Community Center through his Dream Faith Foundation, providing a space for students and adults to utilize technology for educational and job-related purposes.

Thompson has named his local initiatives “St. Pete Strong,” organizing conferences and programs in St. Petersburg and other locations to equip young people with the skills they need to thrive in a technology-driven world. He also volunteers with the robotics club at Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg, where students recently built a four-wheeled robotic vehicle that won a judge’s choice award in Tallahassee.

For Thompson, giving back to the community is vital as he believes that access to technology and opportunities for STEM education can empower individuals to succeed. By leveraging his expertise and resources, Thompson is making a significant impact on the youth in his old neighborhood, inspiring them to pursue their passions and reach their full potential.

In addition to these initiatives, Thompson also supports various other organizations such as Boys & Girls Club of America and YMCA of Greater Brandon that serve children from low-income families by providing them with access to technology resources.

Thompson’s commitment towards giving back is not just limited to technological advancements but also extends towards supporting local businesses by encouraging them to adopt new technologies that can help them grow their business.

Overall, Deonte Thompson’s dedication towards using technology for good is truly inspiring as it not only benefits individuals but also communities as a whole by creating opportunities for growth and development.
