Alex de Minaur, an Australian tennis player, stunned the French Open by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round. This victory marks the first time an Australian man has reached the quarter-finals of Roland Garros since 2004. Despite being the fifth seed, Medvedev struggled with blisters on his feet and saw a significant drop in performance upon returning from a medical timeout.

Throughout the match, De Minaur used his speed and agility around the court to keep points alive, frustrating his opponent and drawing out mistakes. Despite improvements from Medvedev in the fourth set, it was not enough to secure a win. A crucial break point at 3-3 in the final set saw De Minaur capitalize with an impressive forehand winner, ultimately leading to his victory over the former world number one.

De Minaur’s young super-fan was instrumental in supporting him throughout his match and credited with helping him secure victory in previous rounds. The 25-year-old expressed his joy at achieving this milestone during his celebration and shouted “I love it here!”

As he continues his impressive run at the French Open, De Minaur will face either German fourth seed Alexander Zverev or Danish 13th seed Holger Rune in the quarter-finals. He will undoubtedly look to build on this success and make a name for himself in the world of tennis.
