The upcoming ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup on Long Island is facing a global threat made by terror group ISIS-K. Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder revealed that the event received an ISIS-K-linked threat in April, followed by more specific threats targeting the India versus Pakistan game scheduled for June 9. There were also references to a viral video circulating online that called for a “lone wolf” to take action.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman described the event as being akin to the Super Bowl but on a much larger scale, with teams and fans from around the world expected to attend. Blakeman emphasized that preparations have been ongoing for over six months to address security and health concerns that could arise at such a large-scale event.

Blakeman highlighted the collaborative security efforts between the county and federal partners, including the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and other law enforcement and intelligence agencies. All threats are taken seriously, and numerous precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of the stadium and the surrounding Eisenhower Park.

The games are set to begin this weekend at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Eisenhower Park. CNN’s Christina Zdanowicz contributed to this report.
